LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Friday, February 27

Dear Altar Society members,

The month of February was a productive one for Christ the King Altar Society members.

We started the month with First Friday Adoration under the leadership of Debby Begert and Beverly Marroy.

On Tuesday, February 17th, ladies from the Altar Society met at our beautiful church for our Spring/Lenten Cleaning Day. Thank you to our amazing Sacristans, Marlyn Conrow, Gloria Erdman, and Lourdes Stokes, and to all of you who participated in cleaning and beautifying our church, preparing it for the Lenten season and beyond. The care and upkeep of Christ the King Church is one of the most important ministries of the Altar Society, and we are so grateful to those of you who clean it on a regular basis and keep everything running smoothly. We encourage you to join our Sacristans on any Monday and Thursday after daily mass to perform general care and upkeep of the Sacristy, altars, and the church.

Our Fundraising Committee, under the direction of Gayle Agnew, Betty Hovas, and Dianna Unis, has been hard at work planning our Spring Bingo Luncheon Fundraiser, Bingo and Blooms, which will take place on Tuesday, March 24, at the Dallas Arboretum. On February 4, the committee held a meeting at Abbey Glass in Preston Center, and after the meeting, all Atlar Society members were invited to shop at Abbey Glass at a discounted price. Abbey Glass also generously donated a portion of their proceeds from that night to our fundraising effort. Please plan to attend Bingo and Blooms. It promises to be the event of the season!
This past Wednesday, February 25th, we participated in our Lenten Morning of Reflection. We started out with a Mass and then moved to the Parish Center for a delicious brunch followed by an enlightening reflection, which was led by our very own Andrew Petiprin, Cardinal Farrell Director of Community Life at Christ the King.
Andrew started out with a seemingly simple question, “Jesus: Yes or No?” which made us reflect on whether we put Jesus at the forefront of our lives in everything we do and not just when it is convenient for us. Andrew presented us with examples of several bible figures—including St. Peter, Zacchaeus, and Nicodemus—who, although imperfect humans like all of us, ultimately chose to say “Yes” to Jesus and to embrace Him wholeheartedly. Throughout his talk, Andrew weaved in his own beautiful story of coming into full communion with the Catholic Church and the faith he put in Our Lord while discerning his vocation. Andrew expounded on the beauty of the sacrament of Confession in the Catholic tradition and our ability to start anew in our path to complete unity with Christ. Andrew ended his talk by reminding us of God’s enduring love for each of us. As imperfect as we are, we can grow in our faith everyday by trusting in God to guide us one step at a time, just as St. John Henry Newman so eloquently wrote while he was ill and stranded in Italy, far from home, in his hymn and poem “Lead, Kindly Light.”

Thank you, Andrew for your enriching talk and for reminding us to say “Yes” to Jesus in everything we do. Thank you also to Fr. Tony for celebrating the Mass, Fr. Tony and Fr. Alex for hearing Confessions, to Aurelia Corbitt for serving as our Lector, and to our amazing Retreat leaders, Karen Carney, Mary Kathryn Elliott, Maria Parigi, and Gina Rischard, who put together this meaningful day.

Just a reminder that our General Program is just around the corner, and it is not to be missed. Dr. Lori Cook of the Center for BrainHealth from the University of Texas at Dallas will be presenting a talk titled “Everyday Strategies to Thrive in Life” on Wednesday, March 4th at 10:00 am (with refreshments beforehand starting at 9:30 am) in the Parish Center.

Blessings to each of you as we await spring and the hope and joy it brings.

Ana Yoder
