Dear Altar Society members,
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by loved ones.
We are now entering the Advent season full of hope and light. Many of our members were blessed to have experienced a thought-provoking and uplifting Pre-Advent Morning of Reflection led by our very own Fr. Alex. Fr. Alex presented us with a historical and theological meditation on the meaning of Advent and reminded us about the importance of slowing down, embracing silence, stepping back from technology, and simplifying our lives in preparation for our Lord’s coming.
Thank you, Father Alex, Karen Carney, Aurelia Corbitt, Mary Kathryn Elliott, Tina Noah, Maria Parigi, and Susan Piot for contributing to this enlightening morning, which started with Mass and continued with food for our bellies and, most importantly, food for our souls. Many of you asked for a copy of Fr. Alex’s presentation, and he has generously shared it. You may access it in this newsletter. It is an excellent resource as you go through the Advent season.
We have two upcoming Altar Society social events that are beloved to our members. Lauri Miller and Stephanie Strange are at it again! They are organizing ‘My Favorite Things’ at the home of Jacquie O’Toole, and it promises to be a delightful evening of fun and fellowship. And Mary Louise Binning and Marti Burke are overseeing the Christmas Tea at the home of Michelle Collins. I am looking forward to seeing you all there! Thank you, ladies, for your efforts on behalf of our members. ‘My Favorite Things’ is at full capacity, but you can still sign up for the Christmas Tea through our website or by contacting Marti Burke at 214-499-8031.
As always, we have the annual Angel Tree giving event on December 13th and 14th, organized by our multi-talented Michelle Collins with the help of Margaret Collins. Your donations are greatly needed and appreciated by these organizations: Catholic Charities Brady Center, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, St. Joseph’s Residence, St. Mary of Carmel School, and White Rose Women’s Center. Please consider giving to this worthy cause. Any amount is appreciated.
The Altar Society is also sponsoring Donut Sunday on December 14th to coincide with our Angel Tree giving event. Please sign up to help as specified through this newsletter.
So many thanks to each of you for your service to our Church, our parish community and the Altar Society.
Merry Christmas, and here’s to another year of faith and fellowship!
With gratitude,
Ana Yoder
Altar Society President 2025-2026
