Dear Altar Society members,
I am still basking in the glow of our amazing luncheon, BINGO & BLOOMS, last week. What a great success! The Arboretum was in full spring bloom, and our hearts were also blossoming as we enjoyed the beautiful event and each other’s company. Applause and gratitude go out to our three co-chairs, Gayle Agnew, Betty Hovas, and Dianna Unis, and their committee, who worked tirelessly to make this event so special. The décor and tulip arrangements were joyful and welcoming, the raffle baskets were exquisite, and lots of laughter rang through during the delicious luncheon and bingo games. We were so blessed to have Fr. Tony and Fr. Alex in attendance, as well as the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. We are especially thankful to Sister Mary Paul who led us in a beautiful prayer before our meal and to Sister Monika who helped draw the raffle prizes.
In accordance with our stated mission, we enjoyed fellowship, and we raised funds for the chalices, vestments and other furnishings for our new chapel at Christ the King and for the needs of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
We have a few events coming up in the next few weeks:
-On Wednesday, April 15th, we will have our first annual Christ the King Altar Society Mahjong Tournament from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the Christ the King Parish Center. A few spaces are still available, so if you would like to play, please sign up through our website or contact Erika Spinazzola at ErikaLSpin@gmail.com. All skill levels are welcome. This promises to be a fun event with food, drinks and prizes.
-On Wednesday, April 22nd, the Spring Membership Tea will be at the beautiful home of Marti Burke from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Hope to see you all there!
-Lastly, the New Parishioner Welcome Reception has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 3rd, at 2:30 pm in the Community Center Gym (the original one had to be rescheduled to inclement weather). Many thanks to Sherry Krawietz for regrouping and getting the new invitations out.
Fr. Tony reminded us during his homily on Palm Sunday that, as we look forward with joy to Easter and Christ’s Resurrection, we need to slow down and first experience the sorrow of the Cross fully through prayer and repentance. This week is characterized by the Paschal Triduum leading up to Easter Sunday: Maundy Thursday (Last Supper), Good Friday (Crucifixion) and Holy Saturday (Burial). True joy comes from having first walked through the shadows and into the light of Easter.
Wishing you a blessed Holy Week and a joyful Easter!
Ana Yoder
Altar Society President 2025-2026
